Skills Bootcamps for Individuals

Unemployed or on Furlough? Start your digital career now with the Government's Skills Bootcamps scheme.

Description

Skills Bootcamps are designed to help you develop the digital and technical skills that are in demand in your local area. They can even help you fast-track an interview with a local employer and pave the way to securing a better job.

Skills Bootcamps are a recent initiative from the Government in response to the pandemic and have been created as part of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs. They are delivered by Firebrand Training, market-leaders in industry-focused technical training to professionals in the IT and digital sector for over two decades.

At Firebrand Training, Skills Bootcamps run online over 12 weeks, allowing you to train without having to leave your home or office. This makes them accessible even if you are still in work or have caring responsibilities. It also means that whatever Covid-19 restrictions might bring in the future the Skills Bootcamps can still continue.

Led by an online instructor, Firebrand’s Skills Bootcamps offer an interactive virtual classroom experience, providing all the benefits of classroom study without the hassle and cost of travel.  You'll get full interaction with the learning professional, with online support throughout.

Prerequisites

Skills Bootcamps are free if you are aged 19+ and you are either:

  • Employed
  • Self-employed
  • Re-deployed
  • A career-changer/returner
  • Have been unemployed within the last 12 months

Previous experience isn’t important, unless it is required by the role or regulations of the industry in which the vacancies are being offered.

If you are already in a technical/digital role but looking to upskill you could still be eligible, so talk to your employer or check out the information here.

You must have the right to live and work in the UK.

You will be able to develop skills for employment through additional career guidance and support provided through access to self-study. You will also be provided with an experienced, named dedicated ‘Success Coach’.

Randomised Control Group (RCT)

Due to the nature of the government funding for Skills Bootcamps, strict guidelines are in place meaning that - from September 2021 - two eligible candidates will be identified for a place, but only one will be offered a place.
